  1. In 1996 I undertook a Ph. D. program (Professor Takamitsu Muraoka, examined by Professors Bruce Chilton and Max Wilcox) in which I compared Lk 1-2 side-by-side with the Hebrew, Septuagint and Targum versions of Isaiah and concluded that the composer of Lk 1-2 may, as one strand in his literary enterprise, selected and shaped traditions about the events surrounding the advents of John and Jesus to demonstrate by means of a pesher-type technique of OT interpretation to persons whose biblical understandings had been moulded by targumic translations and interpretations in Aramaic speaking synagogues that those events fulfilled in sense and sequence the expectations of salvation in Tg Is 1-9. Professor Chilton referred to my thesis in his book Studying the Historical Jesus (https://books.google.com.au/books?redir_esc=y&id=AJM9grxOjjMC&q=Statham#v=snippet&q=Statham&f=false page 299 n. 45)

    Would Jerusalem perspective be interested in reviewing my thesis? I believe my conclusions are still relevant despite the passage of time–during which I pursued a career as a United Bible Societies translation consultant. I would be happy to provide a copy of the thesis.

    Recently I have been working on the rest of Luke in terms of Hebrew background and am coming up with results that seem to confirm the priority of Luke.
