Messiah
by Elhanan Ben-Avraham
Fearsome and formidable in love,
eyes lit with flame unquenchable
he walks quietly the polluted streets
of tragedy where all schemes fail
and clash in the vain contest of war,
relentless as the consuming fire
armed with the softly spoken word
to pierce the armored heart
and foil the thrusts of evil
hidden in darkened caverns of men,
his gentle song challenging
the cresting wave of wickedness
churning the sea of humanity
that would still the flame
kindling the innermost sanctum
of fallen Adam’s heart,
searing the dross
and defilement from gold,
he reconstructs the holy house,
igniting the lamp
in the timeless temple of eternity.
